That time of year

So it’s that time of year again. Where you’re either working your balls off in the sweltering sun or sitting in an office watching enough snowboard movies to hold you over until: A. You head out west to a summer shred camp, B. Save up and pay the grand to shred some southern hemi pow, or C. (our least favorite), wait until the snow flies again. We recommend both options A and B.

It’s been a bit since our last post because it’s that time of year again here at Rhythm…building season. We’ve been buried in the shop building our inventory for next year and are very excited for the 2010/2011 season! We have added a few new boards to our quiver, SO keep checking back throughout this summer for updates of our summer shred trips and where our boards will be sold next season!!!

Fenway

This past winter, ECS featured this photo of John Lyke at an undiscovered location near Fenway Park . We were really excited to see the outcome of this shoot because the stadium lights were on for the Bruins’ Winter Classic. A photo like this is one in a million. John Frank Lyke explains his thoughts on that night…

I headed up to meet Aaron Blatt outside of Boston, with my top filmer Mark Golembeski. After meeting Mrs. Blatt and driving around Aaron’s old stomping ground for a few, we arrived at an exquisite down flat down. Speed was an issue as always and after a few hours of trying to land a trick and searching for more spots we headed on back to Aaron’s place. Matt was in Boston, just a half hour away and has been talking up this Drop under fenways lights. We were beat and didn’t wanna drive out of the way to the drop to find there was no snow left.

We sucked it up and headed into the city anyway, and found a huge pile of snow a couple 100 feet from the landing. We started shoveling (Blatt, me, Mark G, and young Matthew), and after about 2 hours we had enough snow in the landing. Aaron and Mark set up their lights and cameras as me and matt figured out the take off, with a little help from the Banshee Bungee. After the first hit my nerves left me and I landed a couple drops trying out different grabs. The toe side front side one Stale fish was my favorite and didn’t make the magazine, but i made sure to include it in the edit. Landing that and having Aaron call it saying we had the photo was definitely a highlight of the season. That and every handplant.

Probably the worst thing was having to deal with getting up to the drop, which consisted of a narrow alley that was filled with broken glass and needles.

Liberty Mtn., VA

A few weekends back SNOWBOARDER MAGAZINE followed a crew of Vermonters down to Liberty Mountain in Virginia to do some bristle boardin’. One of the riders taking the 13 hour journey south was Rhythm’s Sky Gale. Peep the edit below – So Sick!

Saturday went way better than we could have ever imagined. The sun was shining, friends were everywhere, and the level of riding was at an all time high. From young and upcoming homies like Tyler McCullough, Dylan Okurowski, and Holden Barth, to top East Coast riders like – Yale Cousino, Shaun Murphy, Sky Gale, John Murphy, and Johnny Lyke. This was one of those contests where you didn’t need to know how to snowboard to enjoy – the riding was that good. The $1,000 ended up going to Shaun Murphy for his technical trickery and fluid style. But needless to say, the level of riding was one for the books.

Afterwards we headed to the Slidebrook Lodge for some much needed celebration to a good day. We want to thank Tony and all the Sugarbush Parks Homies for letting us put on the contest and everyone else who came out. It was greatly appreciated and your love is what makes us grow! See you all there next year!

Here it is. On Saturday March 27th, we will be throwing an end of the year rail rager at Sugarbush in Warren, VT. Come test your skills and get a chance to take home a cold $1,000 in cash. $10 entrance fee , but you get in free if you wear a tank. All proceeds from the competition go towards the Sugarbush Freestyle Team. So if you’re into spring shredding, friends, and an all around good time..get to Sugarbush next saturday!

Oh and we will be having an after party at the Slidebrooke Lodge, so it’s looking like a pretty epic weekend…see you there!

Knowledge is Power

This Saturday March 6th, Rhythm Snowboards will be attending Minds Matter’s 2nd Annual Spring Soirée. Minds Matter is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success. Here at Rhythm we fully support any form of education and we especially support helping people. There will be live music, comedians, a silent auction (raffling off a brand new Rhythm Snowboard!), and we will have a booth set up showcasing this year’s line of boards. So if you like helping people, music, and having a good time – we will see you Saturday night…

Everyone mark your calendar for Saturday March 13th. Rhythm Snowboards will be putting on a competition down at Mount Southington in CT. There’s going to be a $1,000 cash prize for first, tons of giveaways, and a chance to demo some fresh boards. Tell all your friends, your mom, your friends’ mom, your mom’s friends…..whoever. At it again

Johnny Lyke at it again…grabbing a sick photo in this month’s issue of East Coast Snowboarding. This picture is important to me because there was a ton of snow that fell in Boston in late December and what better place to do some shredding than in front of Fenway Park. Watching John do this massive drop was one for the books! Keep checking back for updates and to see where we’ll be demoing our boards in the next couple weeks!

This winter has brought a ton of snow to the East Coast. While on his way back to VT, Rhythm’s own Johnny Lyke decided to roll through Boston and put his new 152 Supertwin to the test.
